Project Summary

Subsurface Dynamics was tasked with optimizing hydraulic fracture design using an existing fracture model. This study included geomechanical rock properties estimation, reservoir simulation, and fracture modelling design.

CLIENT: Undisclosed

FORMATION: Upper and Lower Montney

Scope of Work

Using proprietary data from the Client including geomechanical, PVT , reservoir data and an existing fracture model Subsurface Dynamics created a new hydraulic fracture completion design.

Fracturing was planned to take place in a portion of the reservoir which was partially depleted. The initial fracture modelling (legacy design) did not properly account for depletion in the reservoir. The legacy design,  showed significant inefficiencies in design due to pressure sink zones. Pumping rates, proppant and fluid volumes had not been optimized.

Result

SSD created an optimized completion schedule with pressure sink mitigation plan, optimum rate/pressure design and optimized proppant properties.

  • Increase in total stimulated volume by 50%

  • Achieved reduction in screenouts by 20 %
