Full Field Development Study in a Tight Unconventional Reservoir

Subsurface Dynamics was tasked with developing a full field development program for an international tight carbonate field. This study included the integration of all geophysical, geological and engineering data. Based on this work, optimal well placement and completion designs were developed for the upcoming drilling program.

Scope of Work

Using proprietary data from the Client, Subsurface Dynamics constructed a geological static and history matched dynamic model.  The dynamic model was then used to perform a full well placement optimization workflow with a main focus on optimal well placement strategy and communication.  It was followed by optimizing horizontal well orientation, lateral length and number of frac stages to maximize NPV and IRR.

Result

As a result of the full field development workflow, the following operational improvements were achieved:

  • 50% increase in cumulative production due to optimized completion strategy.

  • 100% improvement in cumulative production due to optimal horizontal well orientation and lateral length.

  • Reservoir was graded based on expected production and complete maps for future development were provided to the client.

  • Optimal field measurement plan was generated to reduce costs and decrease uncertainty on the full field scale.
