Project Summary

Subsurface Dynamics was tasked with performing pore pressure and fracture gradient analysis prior to upcoming drilling and completion programs. This study included geomechanical rock properties estimation, prediction of formation pore and fracture pressures, analysis of in-situ stresses and drilling risks.

CLIENT: UNDISCLOSED

FORMATION: UPPER AND LOWER MONTNEY

Scope of Work

Using proprietary data from the Client including wireline and surface seismic data, Subsurface Dynamics modeled geomechanical properties, pressure gradients and stress regimes for the nearby offsetting wells, followed by calibration with formation test and production data. Using derived information, a sophisticated 3D model was constructed for the area of interest that included rock properties, pore, and fracture pressures and effective stress estimation. This model was further used in a completion design workflow, where multistage fracking was modeled. During the course of the study, drilling hazards were identified and reported to the drilling team.

Result

SSD created an optimized completion schedule with pressure sink mitigation plan, optimum rate/pressure design and optimized proppant properties.

  • Sophisticated 3D model with rock properties, pressure estimates, and in-situ stresses

  • Drilling hazard  analysis and  reduced risk of the drilling program

  • 3D Geomechanical properties for sophisticated completion design workflow were produced
